For how long was I supposed to be at this job? I seem to remember hearing over and over again: “Two years max. Then you leave, two years and then you quit or move up or move out. People don’t stay much longer than that, you just can’t maintain the level of effort that job requires for that long. People burn out.” Such are the things I heard when applying here and throughout my first few months. Perhaps they were just trying to explain the turnover rate my organization has. There are certainly people here who do my job who have been here more than two years; people who have been doing my job, in this office, for three or more years. I can’t imagine how they’ve done it, it just gets old. Now, don't get me wrong, I do not have a job where I regularly face Herculean tasks requiring immediate resolution, but I do on occasion work some long hours for extended periods of time. I think I’m just getting tired of it. Since I’ve had this job there has been a constant bright point despite the lack of personal life: it’s not repetitive and it’s challenging.
Only now it seems repetitive and challenging.
My two year anniversary was a couple of months ago on a Wednesday.
Anyone hiring?
