Oh and check out this site, it's a memorial to the Bush/Cheney sloganator. For those of you who did not hear about this, here's the deal: the Bush/Cheney website briefly allowed supporters to generate their own campaign posters from a template where users supply the slogan and it appears on a standard background. Not surprisingly, folks who didn't support Bush got a hold of it and came up with some great posters. Alas, the feature has been disabled. (via boingboing)
What will I be doing next Wednesday night at 7:00? Ask me. I said ask me. That's right, I'll be watching this dude ----->
stun the Baltimore Orioles with his sinker and slider. I'm just so fucking excited, the Sox' 1-2-3-4 rotation in Pedro, Schilling, Lowe, and Wakefield may well be the best in baseballl.
By the way, today is opening day. Spring is officially here.
OK folks, does any one actually read this? Let’s find out. Today is officially Trivia Tuesday. So here goes, in addition to being Trivia Tuesday, today is also the birthday of Dr. Roger Bannister.
Why is Bannister famous?
First correct answer wins a fantastic prize. And no Googling.
HEY, I said no Googling.
Perhaps I don't get it. Maybe I don't see the forest from the trees. I understand that Israel has a right to protect itself and its citizens from terrorism, but someone, please explain to me what the fuck is not wrong with this statement:
"the lethal missile strike on the blind, paraplegic cleric outside a Gaza mosque"
?
For how long was I supposed to be at this job? I seem to remember hearing over and over again: “Two years max. Then you leave, two years and then you quit or move up or move out. People don’t stay much longer than that, you just can’t maintain the level of effort that job requires for that long. People burn out.” Such are the things I heard when applying here and throughout my first few months. Perhaps they were just trying to explain the turnover rate my organization has. There are certainly people here who do my job who have been here more than two years; people who have been doing my job, in this office, for three or more years. I can’t imagine how they’ve done it, it just gets old. Now, don't get me wrong, I do not have a job where I regularly face Herculean tasks requiring immediate resolution, but I do on occasion work some long hours for extended periods of time. I think I’m just getting tired of it. Since I’ve had this job there has been a constant bright point despite the lack of personal life: it’s not repetitive and it’s challenging.
Only now it seems repetitive and challenging.
My two year anniversary was a couple of months ago on a Wednesday.
Anyone hiring?
I've blogged about my younger brother before. Well, he continues to impress me. He's been in Central America for almost three months now, and he wants to stay. I just helped him extend his airline ticket so that he can stay for a couple more months. Why is he staying? He wants to work here. Colin is going to volunteer at Casa Guatemala, a "home for orphaned, abandoned, or abused children located
on the banks of the Rio Dulce."
Kudos to Colin. Keep the family honor and idealism alive while I continue as a slave to the man. A cog in the endless corporate machine. I used to tell myself jokingly that I was actually sabotaging the beast from within (there was wishful thinking involved in there somewhere)--the truth is, I'm a part of it like everyone else here.
Oh well. Have fun Colin.
Are we taking a hiatus? Well it appears so. Why? My brain can't handle it. Check out my posts on Live from the Third Rail and DCSOB (this is me imagining that if I did not post I'd be missed-- a little ego massaging). I'll talk to y'all fuckers in a week or two. In the mean time, think about this:
The TV Land network is about to have its "TV Land Awards." This is an awards show for RE-RUNS! Is there any better example of the entertainment industry's self important, self-congradulatory nature? To put matters in perspective, thie is the SECOND ANNUAL tv land awards. Two consecutive years of re-run awards. It's only fitting that the re-run network's only original programming is actually a rerun of the Emmys from 1960-1980. Someone please explain this to me.
